DTIC ADA554634: Functional Validation of H2 Relaxin, and its Downstream Effectors, as Mediators, Therapeutic Targets and Potential Biomarkers of Prostate Cancer Progression | The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanism by which H2 relaxin mediates castrate resistant (CR) prostate cancer (CaP), and to determine whether H2 relaxin can be used as a biomarker to identify CaP progression. Elucidating the mechanisms by which prostate cancer disease progression occurs is critical to the development of new treatments for this disease, while the identification of a biomarker will facilitate the detection of CaP progression. We have demonstrated H2 relaxin (RLN2) facilitates castrate resistant (CR) growth of prostate cancer (CaP) cells through PI3K/Akt/Beta- catenin-mediated activation of the androgen receptor (AR) pathway. As inhibition of this pathway caused only approximately 50% reduction in CR growth, we set out to identify additional RLN2-activated pathways that contribute to CR growth. Inhibition of PKA attenuated RLN2-mediated AR activity, inhibited proliferation and caused a small but significant increase in apoptosis. Combined inhibition of t; | 2011 | 2018-08-30T11:08:04Z |
NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19950017215: CFD Modeling of Turbulent Duct Flows for Coolant Channel Analysis | The design of modern liquid rocket engines requires the analysis of chamber coolant channels to maximize the heat transfer while minimizing the coolant flow. Coolant channels often do not remain at a constant cross section or at uniform curvature. New designs require higher aspect ratio coolant channels than previously used. To broaden the analysis capability and to complement standard analysis tools an investigation on the accuracy of CFD predictions for coolant channel flow has been initiated. Validation of CFD capabilities for coolant channel analysis will enhance the capabilities for optimizing design parameters without resorting to extensive experimental testing. The eventual goal is to use CFD to determine the flow fields of unique coolant channel designs and therefore determine critical heat transfer coefficients. In this presentation the accuracy of a particular CFD code is evaluated for turbulent flows. The first part of the presentation is a comparison of numerical results to; | 1993 | 2016-10-03T14:41:27Z |
NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19850026574: Measurements of Fe and Ar fragmentation cross sections | Measurements are reported of the yields of individual isotopes of Cr to Co(Z = 24 to 27) resulting from the fragmentation of Fe-56, and the isotopes of Mg to K(Z = 12 to 19) resulting from the fragmentation of Ar-40. Recent advances in the resolution and collecting power of cosmic ray instrumentation, have led to dramatic improvements in the precision of cosmic ray composition measurements, both elemental and isotopic. The interpretation of these measurements is presently limited by uncertainties in the fragmentation cross-sections needed to correct for nuclear interactions with the interstellar gas. Cosmic ray propagation codes now rely mainly on semi-empirical cross-section formulae developed by Silberberg and Tsao (S&T), which have a typical uncertainty of approximately 25%. Relative isotope yields from the fragmentation of approximately 380 MeV/nucleon Fe-56 e and approximately 210 MeV/nucleon Ar-40 r in CH2 targets, observed during the calibration of two cosmic ray spectrometers a; | 1985 | 2016-09-13T21:51:08Z |
DTIC ADA588292: Protein Phosphatase 2A Signaling in Human Prostate Cancer | Advanced prostate cancers (PCa) treated with first line androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) eventually relapse in a hormone refractory or castration-resistant (CR) form. Relapsed disease is highly aggressive and poses an increased risk of morbidity and death. Previously, we demonstrated that PPP2CA, which encodes the catalytic-subunit (alpha-isoform) of the protein phosphatase 2A (PP2AC ), is downregulated in CR PCa. The level of PP2AC was decreased in majority of CR PCa cell lines and cancer lesions as compared to the adjacent normal/benign tumor tissues. Under this project, we have utilized multiple approaches to demonstrate a functional role of PP2A in human prostate cancer progression. We have shown that PP2A downregulation promotes growth, androgen depletion-resistance and aggressive behavior of prostate cancer cells. We have also developed in vivo experimental support for a suppressor role of PP2A in prostate cancer progression using orthotopic mouse model. Furthermore, we delinea; | 2013 | 2018-09-15T21:01:24Z |
DTIC ADA560736: Identification of Androgen Receptor-Regulated Genes in Castration-Recurrent Prostate Cancer | Recent data indicate that castration-recurrent prostate cancer (CR-CaP) progression is driven by the activation of wild-type androgen receptor (AR) through at least two mechanisms: tyrosine phosphorylation by Src family (SFK) and Ack1 tyrosine kinases, and the induction of AR coregulators that regulate the transcriptional activity of AR. It is likely that identifying novel AR-regulated genes in CR-CaP, especially those involving promoters with novel target sequences, will help elucidate the molecular mechanisms that drive CR-CaP initiation and progression, and will help identify potential new therapeutic targets for CRCaP. We propose to use ChIP-seq, exome-seq and bioinformatics analyses to comprehensively identify AR-regulated genes that drive the growth of human CR-CaP tumors in mice. The longterm aim of this work is to develop a CR-CaP progression gene signature, to identify CR-CaPassociated AR binding site motifs, and to identify potential new therapeutic targets in CRCaP. | 2012 | 2018-09-02T07:34:24Z |

Fuel Line Based Acoustic Flame-Out Detection System | An acoustic flame-out detection system is described that renders a large high pressure combustor safe in the event of a flame-out and possible explosive re-ignition. A dynamic pressure transducer is placed in the fuel line and detects the stabilizing fuel pressure oscillations caused by the combustion process. An electric circuit converts the signal from the combustion vortices, and transmitted to the fuel flow, to a series of pulses. A missing pulse detector counts the pulses and continuously resets itself. If three consecutive pulses are missing, the circuit closes the fuel valve. With fuel denied, the combustor is shut down or restarted under controlled conditions. The novelty of the present invention is the location of the pressure transducer sensor in the fuel line rather than in the combustor unit (as in a previous system). This provides a more sensitive, durable, and less expensive system that greatly reduces the response period, between an indication of flame-out, to shut down ; | 1996 | 2011-05-23T03:13:59Z |

NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20110004947: Sm-Nd Isotopic Studies of Ureilite Novo Urei | Ureilites are ultramafic (harzburgitic) achondrites composed predominantly of olivine and pyroxenes, abundant carbon (graphites and shock-produced diamonds), some metal and sulfides. These rocks probably represent ultramafic mantles of differentiated parent asteroidal bodies. Age determinations of these rocks by Rb-Sr and Sm-Nd methods have been difficult because of their extremely low abundances of these parent-daughter elements. Nevertheless, Sm-Nd isochron ages were reported for Kenna, Goalpara, MET 78008 and PCA 82506 yielding ages of 3.74+/-0.02 Ga, approx.3.7 Ga, 4.09+/-0.08 Ga, 4.23+/-0.06 Ga, respectively [1-4]. These "young" Sm-Nd ages may represent secondary metasomatism events [1] related to impacts [5], as indicated by the similarly young Ar-39-Ar-40 degassing ages of 3.3-4.1 Ga for ureilites Kenna, Novo Urei and Havero [6]. Alternatively, it has been suggested that these rocks may have been contaminated with terrestrial crustal materials and the isochrons do not have any a; | 2011 | 2016-11-07T06:30:05Z |
