| DTIC AD1045104: Effects of Burn Injuries on Thermoregulatory and Cardiovascular Responses in Soldiers: Implications for the Standards of Medical Fitness | The aim of this study was to investigate whether the absolute effective body surface area (BSA) or the %BSA burned best predicts the core temperature response to exercise in the heat. Sixteen healthy non-burned individuals [8 large (LG) and 8 small (SM)] were recruited. On separate occasions, subjects cycled at 100 W for 1 h in a 39C, 20% relative humidity environment with a simulated burn injury of 0% or 40% total BSA. A simulated 40% burn injury reduced the effective BSA to1.350.05 m2 and 1.010.07 m2 in LG and SM groups, respectively. Greater elevations in core temperature were observed in SM, irrespective of condition. For both groups, the elevation in core temperature was exacerbated by the 40% simulated burn(P0.01), yet the magnitude of the increase in core temperature from 0% to 40% simulated burn was not different between groups (P=0.37). | Tagging French Without Lexical Probabilities -- Combining Linguistic Knowledge And Statistical Learning | This paper explores morpho-syntactic ambiguities for French to develop a strategy for part-of-speech disambiguation that a) reflects the complexity of French as an inflected language, b) optimizes the estimation of probabilities, c) allows the user flexibility in choosing a tagset. The problem in extracting lexical probabilities from a limited training corpus is that the statistical model may not necessarily represent the use of a particular word in a particular context. In a highly morphologically inflected language, this argument is particularly serious since a word can be tagged with a large number of parts of speech. Due to the lack of sufficient training data, we argue against estimating lexical probabilities to disambiguate parts of speech in unrestricted texts. Instead, we use the strength of contextual probabilities along with a feature we call ``genotype'', a set of tags associated with a word. | DTIC ADA528195: Self-Aligned ALD AlOx T-gate Insulator for Gate Leakage Current Suppression in SiNx-Passivated AlGaN/GaN HEMTs | A proof-of-concept metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) AlGaN/GaN high-electron mobility transistor (HEMT) that uses a self-aligned 10 nm AlOx gate insulator and SiNx passivation in the device access regions was investigated. Self-alignment of the gate insulator to metal was achieved by utilizing a submicron tri-layer photoresist pattern to lift-off sequentially-deposited AlOx dielectric and Ni/Au gate metal layers. By keeping the temperature low (100 C) during the atomic-layer deposition (ALD) of AlOx, reflow of the photoresist pattern was prevented, which maintained the integrity of its re-entrant profile. After lift-off, the resulting transistor gate had a T-shaped profile with AlOx directly under the gate metal only. In a split wafer comparison, this experimental structure reduced reverse-bias gate leakage current after passivation by one to two orders of magnitude over Schottky gate devices.
