The Neighborhood Improvement Task Force was created after the Community Satisfaction Survey highlighted concerns in Southwest Lake Forest. Since then, the focus has been on making the area safer, cleaner, and more thriving by addressing lighting, parking, property maintenance, crime prevention, and other quality of life priorities. Established in 1858 as an orphanage and school by the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, St. Vincent's is the longest running charitable institution in Santa Barbara, California. They opened the first infirmary for children in Santa Barbara in 1873, created one of California's first childcare programs to help working women in 1918, and operated a residential program and school for children with developmental disabilities from 1936 to 1985.
