| Anomaly of the non-ergodicity parameter and crossover to white noise in the fast relaxation spectrum of a simple glass former | We present quasi-elastic light scattering (LS) and dielectric (DS) spectra of the glass former alpha-picoline (13K < T < 320K). At high temperatures the evolution of the susceptibility minimum is well described by mode coupling theory (MCT) yielding a critical temperature T_c = 162K +- 5K. At T_c > T > T_g the excess wing of the alpha-process identified in the DS spectra and characterized by a power-law exponent c is rediscovered in the LS spectra. Introducing a universal evolution for c = c[lg(tau_{alpha})] as suggested by DS data of several glass formers, the fast dynamics spectrum is singled out, allowing to determine the non-ergodicity parameter f(T). The latter shows the predicted cusp-like anomaly identifying T_c as well. Another discontinuous change of f(T) is observed at T_g. The fast dynamics spectra exhibit a crossover to ``white noise'' (T < T_c). | Multiple Discourse Relations on the Sentential Level in Japanese | In the German government (BMBF) funded project Verbmobil, a semantic formalism Language for Underspecified Discourse Representation Structures (LUD) is used which describes several DRSs and allows for underspecification. Dealing with Japanese poses challenging problems. In this paper, a treatment of multiple discourse relation constructions on the sentential level is shown, which are common in Japanese but cause a problem for the formalism,. The problem is to distinguish discourse relations which take the widest scope compared with other scope-taking elements on the one hand and to have them underspecified among each other on the other hand. | A Satisfiability Algorithm for AC$^0$ | We consider the problem of efficiently enumerating the satisfying assignments to $\AC^0$ circuits. We give a zero-error randomized algorithm which takes an $\AC^0$ circuit as input and constructs a set of restrictions which partition $\{0,1\}^n$ so that under each restriction the value of the circuit is constant. Let $d$ denote the depth of the circuit and $cn$ denote the number of gates. This algorithm runs in time $|C| 2^{n(1-\mu_{c.d})}$ where $|C|$ is the size of the circuit for $\mu_{c,d} \ge 1/\bigO[\lg c + d \lg d]^{d-1}$ with probability at least $1-2^{-n}$. As a result, we get improved exponential time algorithms for $\AC^0$ circuit satisfiability and for counting solutions. In addition, we get an improved bound on the correlation of $\AC^0$ circuits with parity.
