| NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19850022971: A multiple linear regression analysis of hot corrosion attack on a series of nickel base turbine alloys | Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine an equation for estimating hot corrosion attack for a series of Ni base cast turbine alloys. The U transform (i.e., 1/sin (% A/100) to the 1/2) was shown to give the best estimate of the dependent variable, y. A complete second degree equation is described for the centered" weight chemistries for the elements Cr, Al, Ti, Mo, W, Cb, Ta, and Co. In addition linear terms for the minor elements C, B, and Zr were added for a basic 47 term equation. The best reduced equation was determined by the stepwise selection method with essentially 13 terms. The Cr term was found to be the most important accounting for 60 percent of the explained variability hot corrosion attack. | 1985 | 2016-09-13T18:26:49Z |
| NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19930008880: A statistical analysis of elevated temperature gravimetric cyclic oxidation data of 36 Ni- and Co-base superalloys based on an oxidation attack parameter | A large body of high temperature cyclic oxidation data generated from tests at NASA Lewis Research Center involving gravimetric/time values for 36 Ni- and Co-base superalloys was reduced to a single attack parameter, K(sub a), for each run. This K(sub a) value was used to rank the cyclic oxidation resistance of each alloy at 1000, 1100, and 1150 C. These K(sub a) values were also used to derive an estimating equation using multiple linear regression involving log(sub 10)K(sub a) as a function of alloy chemistry and test temperature. This estimating equation has a high degree of fit and could be used to predict cyclic oxidation behavior for similar alloys and to design an optimum high strength Ni-base superalloy with maximum high temperature cyclic oxidation resistance. The critical alloy elements found to be beneficial were Al, Cr, and Ta. | 1992 | 2016-10-01T04:21:28Z |
| NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19940011890: Experimentally reproduced relict enstatite in porphyritic chondrules of enstatite chondrite composition | Experiments are presented that test a model for the origin of porphyritic pyroxene (PP) chondrules in enstatite chondrites that contain phenocrysts of enstatite with blue cathodoluminescence (CL) set in a matrix of radial, dendritic enstatite with red CL. Established one-atmosphere, gas-mixing techniques were used. Relict enstatite phenocrysts with blue CL in a matrix of coarsely radial to dendritic enstatite with red CL were successfully produced. The relict crystals are preserved in runs with a melt time of 36 minutes or less at 1537 C. The relicts remain angular with smooth crystal/melt interfaces, and thus melting has occurred uniformly. Partial melting does occur along fractures produced when the blue CL enstatite was initially grown and cooled through the proto/ortho enstatite transition with the attendent volume change. There is either reaction with the melt and diffusion of Mn and Cr into the blue CL En, or there is an overgrowth of red CL En along the fractures. The bulk of th; | 1993 | 2016-10-03T00:22:18Z |
| Global Structures on CR Manifolds via Nash Blow-ups | A generic compact real codimension two submanifold X of C^(n+2) will have a CR structure at all but a finite number of points (failing at the complex jump points J). The main theorem of this paper gives a method of extending the CR structure on the non-jump points X-J to the jump points. We examine a Gauss map from X-J to an appropriate flag manifold F and take the closure of the graph of this map in X x F. This is a version of a Nash blow-up. We give a clean criterion for when this closure is a smooth manifold and see that the local differential properties at the points X-J can now be naturally extended to this new smooth manifold, allowing global techniques from differential geometry to be applied to compact CR manifolds. As an example, we find topological obstructions for the manifold to be Levi nondegenerate. | 2000 | 2013-09-23T01:11:17Z |
| NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19880009517: Growth and characteristics of materials for tunable lasers in the near infrared spectral region | A method for growing crystals of LiYF4 using an HF pretreatment and purification system is described. In addition, spectrum analyses were performed on eight crystals of type LiNbO3:Mg,Cr,RE, which were grown in order to investigate the use of lithium niobate as a laser host material. | 1988 | 2016-09-21T04:00:25Z |

Let $ f: \Sigma^n \hook \Sigma^{N}$ be a local CR immersion.If $ N-n | 2006 | 2013-07-20T06:28:15Z |
| Global CR functions on parabolic CR manifolds | Let M be an orbit of a real semisimple Lie group G_0 acting on a complex a flag manifolds G/Q of its complexification G. We study the space of global CR functions on M and characterize those M which are strictly locally CR separable, i.e. those for which global CR functions induce local embeddings in C^n. | 2007 | 2013-09-22T09:44:59Z |
| Nonalgebraizable real analytic tubes in C^n | We give necessary conditions for certain real analytic tube generic submanifolds in C^n to be locally algebraizable. As an application, we exhibit families of real analytic non locally algebraizable tube generic submanifolds in C^n. During the proof, we show that the local CR automorphism group of a minimal, finitely nondegenerate real algebraic generic submanifold is a real algebraic local Lie group. We may state one of the main results as follows. Let M be a real analytic hypersurface tube in C^n passing through the origin, having a defining equation of the form v = \phi(y), where (z,w)= (x+iy,u+iv) \in C^{n-1} \times C. Assume that M is Levi nondegenerate at the origin and that the real Lie algebra of local infinitesimal CR automorphisms of M is of minimal possible dimension n, i.e. generated by the real parts of the holomorphic vector fields \partial_{z_1}, ..., \partial_{z_{n-1}}, \partial_w. Then M is locally algebraizable only if every second derivative \partial^2_{y_ky_l}\phi i; | 2004 | 2013-09-20T05:09:15Z |
| NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 19750015688: Modified ferritic iron alloys with improved high-temperature mechanical properties and oxidation resistance | An alloy modification program was conducted in which the compositions of two existing Fe-Cr-Al alloys (Armco 18SR and GE-1541) were changed to achieve either improved high-temperature strength or improved fabricability. Only modifications of Armco 18SR were successful in achieving increased strength without loss of fabricability or oxidation resistance. The best modified alloy, designated NASA-18T, had twice the rupture strength of Armco 18SR at 800 and 1000 C. The NASA-18T alloy also had better oxidation resistance than Armco 18SR and comparable fabricability. The nominal composition of NASA-18T is Fe-18Cr-2Al-1Si-1.25Ta. All attempted modifications of the GE-1541 alloy were unsuccessful in terms of achieving better fabricability without sacrificing high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance. | 1975 | 2016-07-16T17:26:08Z |
| Real Analytic Sets in Complex Spaces and CR maps | If $R$ is a real analytic set in $\C^n$ (viewed as $\R^{2n}$), then for any point $p\in R$ there is a uniquely defined germ $X_p$ of the smallest complex analytic variety which contains $R_p$, the germ of $R$ at $p$. It is shown that if $R$ is irreducible of constant dimension, then the function $p\to\dim X_p$ is constant on a dense open subset of $R$. As an application it is proved that a continuous map from a real analytic CR manifold $M$ into $\C^N$ which is CR on some open subset of $M$ and whose graph is a real analytic set in $M\times \C^N$ is necessarily CR everywhere on $M$. | 2006 | 2013-09-20T09:42:34Z |

Detailed reports from observers, one of whom was actually aboard the ship, state that 10 tanks --apparently T-34s--and 100 antiaircraft guns were delivered. The 4,000-ton cargo reportedly also included machine guns, artillery, and small-arms ammunition, as well as radar and electronics equipment. Some of the arms evidently are of Czech origin. | NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20080026093: The Rocks of the Columbia Hills | The Mars Exploration Rover Spirit has identified five distinct rock types in the Columbia Hills of Gusev crater. Clovis Class rock is a poorly-sorted clastic rock that has undergone substantial aqueous alteration. We interpret it to be aqueously-altered ejecta deposits formed by impacts into basaltic materials. Wishstone Class rock is also a poorly-sorted clastic rock that has a distinctive chemical composition that is high in Ti and P and low in Cr. Wishstone Class rock may be pyroclastic in origin. Peace Class rock is a sedimentary material composed of ultramafic sand grains cemented by significant quantities of Mg- and Ca-sulfates. Peace Class rock may have formed when water briefly saturated the ultramafic sands, and evaporated to allow precipitation of the sulfates. Watchtower Class rocks are similar chemically to Wishstone Class rocks, and have undergone widely varying degrees of near-isochemical aqueous alteration. They may also be ejecta deposits, formed by impacts into Wishsto; | 2006 | 2016-10-28T09:59:13Z |
| NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20080030170: Mn-53-Cr-53 Systematics of R-Chondrite NWA 753 | Chondrules and chondrites are interpreted as objects formed in the early solar system, and it is important to study them in order to elucidate its evolution. Here, we report the study of the Mn-Cr systematics of the R-Chondrite NWA753 and compare the results to other chondrite data. The goal was to determine Cr isotopic and age variations among chondrite groups with different O-isotope signatures. The Mn-53-Cr-53 method as applied to individual chondrules [1] or bulk chondrites [2] is based on the assumption that 53Mn was initially homogeneously distributed in that portion the solar nebula where the chondrules and/or chondrites formed. However, different groups of chondrites formed from regions of different O-isotope compositions. So, different types of chondrites also may have had different initial Mn-53 abundances and/or Cr isotopic compositions. Thus, it is important to determine the Cr isotopic systematics among chondrites from various chondrite groups. We are studying CO-chondrite; | 2006 | 2016-10-28T01:43:37Z |
| NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20120014482: Compound-Specific Carbon, Nitrogen, and Hydrogen Isotopic Ratios for Amino Acids in CM and CR Chondrites and their use in Evaluating Potential Formation Pathways | Stable hydrogen, carbon, and nitrogen isotopic ratios (oD, 013C, and olSN) of organic compounds can revcal information about their origin and formation pathways. Several formation mechanisms and environments have been postulated for the amino acids detected in carbonaceous chondrites. As each proposed mechanism utilizes different precursor molecules, the isotopic signatures of the resulting amino acids may indicate the most likely of these pathways. We have applied gas chromatography with mass spectrometry and combustion isotope ratio mass spectrometry to measure the compound-specific C, N, and H stable isotopic ratios of amino acids from seven CM and CR carbonaceous chondrites: CM1I2 Allan Hills (ALH) 83100, CM2 Murchison, CM2 Lewis Cliff (LEW) 90500, CM2 Lonewolf Nunataks (LON) 94101, CRZ Graves Nunataks (GRA) 95229, CRZ Elephant Moraine (EET) 92042, and CR3 Queen Alexandra Range (QUE) 99177.
