NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20130010925: A New Spinel-Olivine Oxybarometer: Near-Liquidus Partitioning of V between Olivine-Melt, Spinel-Melt, and Spinel-Olivine in Martian Basalt Composition Y980459 as a Function of Oxygen FugacityOur research on valence state partitioning began in 2005 with a review of Cr, Fe, Ti, and V partitioning among crystallographic sites in olivine, pyroxene, and spinel [1]. That paper was followed by several on QUE94201 melt composition and specifically on Cr, V, and Eu partitioning between pyroxene and melt [2-5]. This paper represents the continuation of our examination of the partitioning of multivalent V between olivine, spinel, and melt in martian olivine-phyric basalts of Y980459 composition [6, 7]. Here we introduce a new, potentially powerful oxybarometer, V partitioning between spinel and olivine, which can be used when no melt is preserved in the meteorite. The bulk composition of QUE94201 was ideal for our study of martian pyroxene-phyric basalts and specifically the partitioning between pyroxene-melt for Cr, V, and Eu. Likewise, bulk composition Y980459 is ideal for the study of martian olivine-phyric basalts and specifically for olivine-melt, spinel-melt, and spinel-olivine;20132016-11-13T16:59:49Z

NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20140004413: On the Relationship between Cosmic Ray Exposure Ages and Petrography of CM ChondritesCarbonaceous (C) chondrites are potentially the most primitive among chondrites because they mostly escaped thermal metamorphism that affected the other chondrite groups. C chondrites are chemically distinguished from other chondrites by their high Mg/Si ratios and refractory elements, and have experienced various degrees of aqueous alteration. They are subdivided into eight subgroups (CI, CM, CO, CV, CK, CR, CB and CH) based on major element and oxygen isotopic ratios. Their elemental ratios vary over a wide range, in contrast to those of ordinary and enstatite chondrites which are relatively uniform. It is critical to know how many separate bodies are represented by the C chondrites. In this study we defined 4 distinct cosmic-ray exposure (CRE) age groups of CMs and systematically characterized the petrography in each of the 4 CRE age groups to determine whether the groups have significant petrographic differences with such differences probably reflecting different parent body (aster;20142016-11-16T07:16:39Z
NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20170005740: A Case for Nebula Scale Mixing Between Non-Carbonaceous and Carbonaceous Chondrite Reservoirs: Testing the Grand Tack Model with Chromium Isotopic Composition of Almahata Sitta Stone 91AThere is an increasing number of Cr-O-Ti isotope studies that show solar system materials are divided into two main populations, one carbonaceous chondrite (CC)-like and the other is non-carbonaceous (NC)-like, with minimal mixing attributed to a gap opened in the protoplanetary disk due to Jupiter's formation. The Grand Tack model suggests there should be large-scale mixing between S- and C-type asteroids, an idea supported by our recent work on chondrule (Delta)17O-ε54Cr isotope systematics. The Almahata Sitta (AhS) meteorite provides a unique opportunity to test the Grand Tack model. The meteorite fell to Earth in October 2008 and has been linked to the asteroid 2008 TC3 which was discovered just prior to the fall of the AhS stones. The AhS meteorite is composed of up to 700 individual pieces with approx.140 of those pieces having some geochemical and/or petrologic studies. Almahata Sitta is an anomalous polymict ureilite with other meteorite components, including enstatite, ordina;20172022-06-26T14:28:56Z

Global Structures on CR Manifolds via Nash Blow-upsA generic compact real codimension two submanifold X of C^(n+2) will have a CR structure at all but a finite number of points (failing at the complex jump points J). The main theorem of this paper gives a method of extending the CR structure on the non-jump points X-J to the jump points. We examine a Gauss map from X-J to an appropriate flag manifold F and take the closure of the graph of this map in X x F. This is a version of a Nash blow-up. We give a clean criterion for when this closure is a smooth manifold and see that the local differential properties at the points X-J can now be naturally extended to this new smooth manifold, allowing global techniques from differential geometry to be applied to compact CR manifolds. As an example, we find topological obstructions for the manifold to be Levi nondegenerate.20002013-09-23T01:11:17Z

Global CR functions on parabolic CR manifoldsLet M be an orbit of a real semisimple Lie group G_0 acting on a complex a flag manifolds G/Q of its complexification G. We study the space of global CR functions on M and characterize those M which are strictly locally CR separable, i.e. those for which global CR functions induce local embeddings in C^n.20072013-09-22T09:44:59Z
Nonalgebraizable real analytic tubes in C^nWe give necessary conditions for certain real analytic tube generic submanifolds in C^n to be locally algebraizable. As an application, we exhibit families of real analytic non locally algebraizable tube generic submanifolds in C^n. During the proof, we show that the local CR automorphism group of a minimal, finitely nondegenerate real algebraic generic submanifold is a real algebraic local Lie group. We may state one of the main results as follows. Let M be a real analytic hypersurface tube in C^n passing through the origin, having a defining equation of the form v = \phi(y), where (z,w)= (x+iy,u+iv) \in C^{n-1} \times C. Assume that M is Levi nondegenerate at the origin and that the real Lie algebra of local infinitesimal CR automorphisms of M is of minimal possible dimension n, i.e. generated by the real parts of the holomorphic vector fields \partial_{z_1}, ..., \partial_{z_{n-1}}, \partial_w. Then M is locally algebraizable only if every second derivative \partial^2_{y_ky_l}\phi i;20042013-09-20T05:09:15Z
Real Analytic Sets in Complex Spaces and CR mapsIf $R$ is a real analytic set in $\C^n$ (viewed as $\R^{2n}$), then for any point $p\in R$ there is a uniquely defined germ $X_p$ of the smallest complex analytic variety which contains $R_p$, the germ of $R$ at $p$. It is shown that if $R$ is irreducible of constant dimension, then the function $p\to\dim X_p$ is constant on a dense open subset of $R$. As an application it is proved that a continuous map from a real analytic CR manifold $M$ into $\C^N$ which is CR on some open subset of $M$ and whose graph is a real analytic set in $M\times \C^N$ is necessarily CR everywhere on $M$.20062013-09-20T09:42:34Z
A spectroscopic study of the Globular Cluster M28 (NGC~6626)We present the abundance analysis for a sample of 17 red giant branch stars in the metal-poor globular cluster M28 based on high resolution spectra. This is the first extensive spectroscopic study of this cluster. We derive abundances of O, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Y, Zr, Ba, La, Ce, and Eu. We find a metallicity of [Fe/H]=-1.29+-0.01 and an alpha-enhancement of +0.34+-0.01 (errors on the mean), typical of Halo Globular Clusters in this metallicity regime. A large spread is observed in the abundances of light elements O, Na, and Al. Mg also shows an anticorrelation with Al with a significance of 3 sigma. The cluster shows a Na-O anticorrelation and a Na-Al correlation. This correlation is not linear but "segmented" and that the stars are not distributed continuously, but form at least 3 well separated sub-populations. In this aspect M28 resembles NGC~2808 that was found to host at least 5 sub-populations. The presence of a Mg-Al anticorrelation favor massi;20162018-06-29T17:43:45Z
