| The Recent Star Formation Histories of M81 Group Dwarf Irregular Galaxies | We present observations and analysis of nine dwarf irregular galaxies (dIs) in the M81 Group taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys aboard the Hubble Space Telescope. The nine galaxy sample (the Garland, M81 Dwarf A, DDO 53, Ho IX, Ho I, DDO 165, NGC 2366, Ho II, and IC 2574) spans 6 magnitudes in luminosity, a factor of 1000 in current star formation rate, and 0.5 dex in metallicity. Here we use color-magnitude diagrams of resolved stellar populations to study the star formation histories (SFHs) of these galaxies. We divide the sample into faint and bright galaxies, with a dividing line of M_${B}$ = -15, and then analyze the similarities and differences in the SFHs, birthrate parameters, fraction of stars formed per time interval, and spatial distribution of stellar components. Comparing these parameters as a function of luminosity, we find only minor differences in SF characteristics. | A Satisfiability Algorithm for AC$^0$ | We consider the problem of efficiently enumerating the satisfying assignments to $\AC^0$ circuits. We give a zero-error randomized algorithm which takes an $\AC^0$ circuit as input and constructs a set of restrictions which partition $\{0,1\}^n$ so that under each restriction the value of the circuit is constant. Let $d$ denote the depth of the circuit and $cn$ denote the number of gates. This algorithm runs in time $|C| 2^{n(1-\mu_{c.d})}$ where $|C|$ is the size of the circuit for $\mu_{c,d} \ge 1/\bigO[\lg c + d \lg d]^{d-1}$ with probability at least $1-2^{-n}$. As a result, we get improved exponential time algorithms for $\AC^0$ circuit satisfiability and for counting solutions. In addition, we get an improved bound on the correlation of $\AC^0$ circuits with parity. | DTIC ADA528195: Self-Aligned ALD AlOx T-gate Insulator for Gate Leakage Current Suppression in SiNx-Passivated AlGaN/GaN HEMTs | A proof-of-concept metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) AlGaN/GaN high-electron mobility transistor (HEMT) that uses a self-aligned 10 nm AlOx gate insulator and SiNx passivation in the device access regions was investigated. Self-alignment of the gate insulator to metal was achieved by utilizing a submicron tri-layer photoresist pattern to lift-off sequentially-deposited AlOx dielectric and Ni/Au gate metal layers. By keeping the temperature low (100 C) during the atomic-layer deposition (ALD) of AlOx, reflow of the photoresist pattern was prevented, which maintained the integrity of its re-entrant profile. After lift-off, the resulting transistor gate had a T-shaped profile with AlOx directly under the gate metal only. In a split wafer comparison, this experimental structure reduced reverse-bias gate leakage current after passivation by one to two orders of magnitude over Schottky gate devices.
