The effects of adding different kinds of contextual information on the Swiss public’s perception of earthquake likelihoodsA single likelihood is very difficult to evaluate without context or experience. One tool that risk communicators suggest for aiding with comprehension of unfamiliar risks such as damaging earthquakes is the use of comparator risks. Comparisons are thought to put risks in psychological perspective by providing a kind of “conceptual yardstick” [1]. This is thought to improve understanding of risk magnitudes and be more intuitively meaningful than absolute numerical probabilities by allowing less familiar risks to be compared with those that are better known [2–5]. Freeman et al [6] found that comparator risks in and of themselves were helpful to people when trying to understand their personal risk from COVID-19, as it increased the sensitivity of their perception of different levels of risk, as did Savadori et al [7] when studying seismic risk communication. A graphical aid called a risk ladder, which shows the positions of comparator risks along a visual scale, is also often used;20222022-08-09T11:40:45Z

DTIC ADA565957: Coarsening Behavior of Gamma Prime Precipitates and Concurrent Transitions in the Interface Width in Ni-14 at%A1-7 at%Cr (Preprint)Coupling atom probe tomography (APT) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the temporal evolution of the precipitate morphology and size distribution, and compositional width of gamma/gamma' interface and associated elemental partitioning, has been tracked in a model Ni-14Al-7Cr(at%) alloy, during isothermal annealing at 800 degrees C. During the initial annealing period, accelerated growth of gamma' is accompanied by a gradual decrease in interface width and enhancement of solute partitioning.
