ERIC ED088916: Evaluation of the Punjabi-English Class at the Moberly Primary Annex for the 1972-73 School Year. | This is an interim report of a special program to assist newly-arrived immigrant children from the Punjab in India. It describes a homogeneous class enrolling twenty pupils, all of East Indian origin and between five and eight years of age. The teacher of the Punjabi-English class kept an extensive anecdotal record of the growth and development of her students. An observation of the class was made by an educational psychologist to provide an external objective audit of the pupils' accomplishments. Various tests were administered to the experimental class and a control group of matched East Indian children. The findings showed that the special class appeared to be promoting the personality development of its pupils, particularly in social skills and oral expression. The program achieved its objective of developing in pupils sufficient facility in English so that more than one-half of them merited placement in regular primary classes. The report presents seven recommendations for the ext; | 1973 | 2015-06-04T06:46:43Z |

Old Testament theology : reading the Hebrew Bible as Christian scripture | xiv, 333 pages ; 24 cm // "Moberly offers an in-depth study of key Old Testament passages, highlighting enduring issues in Hebrew Bible interpretation and discussing Jewish readings alongside Christian readings. The volume is representative of the content of Israel's scriptures rather than comprehensive, yet it discusses most of the major topics of Old Testament theology. Moberly is attentive to varying ways of reading Israel's scriptures throughout history and to contemporary challenges in appropriating the content of the Old Testament. He demonstrates a Christian approach to reading the Old Testament that holds together the priorities of both scholarship and faith."--Jacket // Includes bibliographical references (pages 289-308) and indexes // A love supreme -- A chosen people -- Daily bread -- Does God change? -- Isaiah and Jesus -- Educating Jonah -- Faith and perplexity -- Where is wisdom? | 2013 | 2022-02-17T03:41:02Z |

The temple in text and tradition : a festschrift in honour of Robert Hayward | xxiii, 316 pages ; 24 cm // The Second Temple period is an era that marked a virtual explosion in the world of literature, with the creation, redaction, interpretation, and transmission of Jewish texts that represented diverse languages and ideologies. The creation of many of these writings coincided with the growth of the Jewish community beyond the borders of Israel; therefore, among those for whom the Temple played a diminishing role. The transition period from Temple to texts was accompanied by conflicting interpretations about the role of the Temple as well as diverse theological understandings about God and the Jewish people. Drawing on the expertise of leading specialists in Second Temple Judaism, Temple, Texts, and Traditions explores the rich traditions of the Jewish people as they were expressed and interpreted in their writings in that period, which included writings that later became recognized as Scriptures // Includes bibliographical references and indexes // The boundari; | 2015 | 2021-03-02T04:18:02Z |
